Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina
Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director most well-known for her sexy
appeal, edginess and work in the field of humanitarian aid. The role she played
in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was a part she won in the Academy Award. Jolie, the
daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her childhood in New York. She
moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. After being at the Lee Strasberg Theatre
and Film Institute for two years, she then enrolled at Beverly Hills High
School. Later, she studied acting at New York University. She also appeared in
theatre productions and modelled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995)
when Jolie got to know Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1996;
divorcing 1999). The film failed to find an audience, just as did the
subsequent films. Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor.
She received lots of attention in 1997. The actress later won a Golden Globe
Award. In the HBO movie Gia Jolie was a model who suffered from drug addiction.
She received numerous honors which included the Golden Globe Award, and Screen
Actors Guild Award. After her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted,
Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton
and Billy Bob Thornton. In 2003, she divorced. In Gone in Sixty Seconds
((2000)), Jolie played Nicole Cage's girlfriend. She later changed her accent
to a British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing to play the
title roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The
Cradle of Life (2004). She portrayed Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's
Alexander (2004) as well as played alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in
Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York
City). Both films failed at box office, however Jolie did well with Mr.
& Mrs. Smith (2005). She was a housewife, pretending to play an
assassin. While working on the film she met Brad Pitt who became her partner.
